Pitch shot technique and accuracy

Pitch shot is a shot adopted as approach shot to the green. It is a high lofted shot by high loft angle clubs, like sand wedge, pitching wedge, 9 iron, 8 iron, 7 iron that falls on the green. Most golfers cannot play well when they are close to pin at 20-70 yards distance. Mastering of this pitch shot requires diligent practice and accurate measurement. Judging the flag distances accurately from eye guessing or marker, which most golf courses have, is equally important. Accurate pitch shot can cut off your score and your handicap will be lower . Use pitching wedge for 20 yards to 70 yards pitch. Pitching technique is very well played with arms and hands and shoulder using 4-5-6, 7 methods. These methods require adjustments. Imagine a big clock in front of you and according to the hour hand adjust your back swing length. 7 method will be be your back swing reaches right shoulder.Suppose your 40 yards distance is 3 o, clock position by your clock and is your 4 method, and gradually back swing increases to 5-6,7 according to adjustment in clock backwords, then it will get you the distance of 50,60,70,yards respectively. This distance is applicable with wrist punch during impact. If you do not punch your wrist 20 yards will be added per shot.

Chip shot

When no hazards, like bunker or lake, is there between the flag and the ball, chip shot can be played . The objective should be to fly the ball into the green and roll the ball in the green and let it run the rest of the distance to the flag. When hazard is there pitch or short pitch is the most suitable option.

  • Different situations will dictate the type of play.
  • Stance for chip shot should be slightly open.
  • Left foot should be withdrawn some six inches from right.
  • Ball should be positioned near the right foot.
  • Choke down the club.
  • Imagine clock in front of you.
  • Chip can be done like hour hand at 5,4,3 o, clock movement of watch.
  • Follow through will be more in chip shot for acceleration.
  • Your purpose is not to scoop the ball.
  • Hand and shoulder movements will be there like pendulum and left wrist will not bend.
  • Slight right knee movement will initiate the chip shot.
